PNW PGA Honors 15 PGA Professionals with 2013 Annual Awards

Tumwater, WA – The Pacific Northwest Section PGA of America named their 2013 Special Award Winners today. The top Pacific Northwest PGA professionals in 15 categories were recognized by their peers for outstanding performance during 2013. The winners listed below represent the very best of the Pacific Northwest Section’s 1,100 PGA Professionals in Washington, Oregon, Northern Idaho, Western Montana and Alaska.

Marcus KingMarcus King, PGA General Manager at Overlake G&CC in Medina, Washington received the Section’s highest honor being named Golf Professional of the Year. King was recognized for his service to his club, development of an outstanding staff, community service to Special Olympics and commitment to his fellow PGA Professionals as President of the Pacific Northwest Section.



Roger WallaceRoger Wallace, PGA Director of Golf at Polson Bay Golf Course in Polson, Montana was awarded the Bill Strausbaugh Award in appreciation for his service to his fellow PGA Professionals, his mentoring of assistant to move on to Head Professionals positions and contributions to his community.



Bill MorachBill Morach, PGA Head Professional at Eugene Country Club in Eugene, Oregon was named the recipient of the Horton Smith Award in recognition to his commitment to advancing education opportunities for his fellow PGA Professionals. Bill has achieved all six PGA Certifications, requires his assistants to work toward certification and serves on the mentoring faculty for the Mentoring Conference.



Jason OwensJason Owens, PGA Teaching Professional at Waverley Country Club in Portland, Oregon was recognized at Teacher of the Year for his outstanding performance as a teacher and commitment to expanding his teaching credentials. Jason is TPI Fitness Certified, is a 3D Motion Analysis Master Instructor and travels extensively to learn at PGATour stops.



Chris GarrisonChris Garrison, PGA General Manager at Camas Meadows Golf Club in Camas, Washington was presented the Player Development Award for his innovative programs to enhance his programs for women and juniors. Chris has created position at his facility dedicated to Player Development.



Joey EshJoseph Esh, PGA Head Professional at Lewiston Country Club in Lewiston, Idaho received the Youth Player Development Award for his efforts to support Junior Golf at his club and in his community. Joey developed his own Golf in Schools program and opened the junior program at his private club to non-members.



Chris RunyanChris Runyan of Sun Dance Golf Course, in Nine Mile Falls, Washington was honored with the Patriot Award for his support of our Nations Veterans and development of programs and fundraising for veterans in his community. His Vets on the Green program welcomes players to Sun Dance and Chris personally take veterans to other area courses. His Dan Kleckner Golf Classic raised $25,000 for the Wounded Warrior Project in just it’s third year and is now a three day tournament.



Derek SiesserDerek Siesser of The Creek at Qualchan in Spokane, Washington was named the Assistant Golf Professional of the Year for his commitment to his customers, his efforts to increase play and his service to the association. Derek teaches extensively and monitors the increase in play from his students, serves on the Chapter Board and the Section Player Development Committee.



Jim HofmeisterJim Hofmeister, PGA Professional from Liberty Lake, Washington was named the recipient of the Perry Williams Award for his service to the Section’s Rules of Golf Committee. Hofmeister who also serves on the National PGA Rules Committee is a frequent Rules Official for Section Championships.



Mark RashellMark Rashell, PGA Head Professional at The Golf Club at Newcastle in Newcastle, Washington was named the Merchandiser of the Year for Public facilities for his innovative approach to unique displays creating a boutique atmosphere, employs continual event promotions and places emphasis on club sales through extensive on site vendor promotions.



Mark SurselyMark Sursely PGA Head Professional at Overlake Golf and Country Club in Medina, Washington was named the Merchandiser of the Year for Private clubs for his unique approach to merchandising, creative remodel of the golf shop to include a members bar and commitment to service to his members.



davidson-tomTom Davidson, PGA Director of Golf at Circling Raven Golf Club in Worley, Idaho was named the Merchandiser of the Year for Resorts for his creative displays, unique product offerings and personal involvement in the daily merchandising operations.



Corey PrughCorey Prugh, PGA Teaching Professional at Manito Golf and Country Club in Spokane, Washington earned the Sterling Cut Glass PNW PGA Player of the Year Award thanks to outstanding play all year long. The award is based on points earned in Section and National championships. This is Corey’s third consecutive Player of the Year honor.



Jeff CostonJeff Coston, PGA Teaching Professional at Semiahmoo Golf and Country Club in Blaine, Washington earned his eighth consecutive PNW PGA Senior Player of the Year Award. Coston has won the award every year he is eligible.



kearneyAssistant PGA Professional Brandon Kearney of Bend Golf and Country Club in Bend, Oregon, earned the Assistant Player of the Year thanks to outstanding play all year long. The award is based on points earned in Section and National championships.



These fifteen outstanding PGA Professionals will be honored at the Pacific Northwest Section Special Awards Ceremony, March 16 at Royal Oaks Country Club in Vancouver, Washington.
