Royal Oaks Country Club to Host 101st Washington Open Invitational

Tumwater, Wash. – The Pacific Northwest Section PGA is proud to announce that Royal Oaks Country Club in Vancouver, Washington, will host the 101st Washington Open Invitational from May 17–19, 2027.

One of the most prestigious championships in the region, the Washington Open Invitational brings together top professionals and elite amateurs from across the Pacific Northwest. First held in 1922 at Yakima Country Club, the tournament boasts a rich legacy of champions, including golf legends such as Chuck Congdon, Bud Ward, Bob Duden, Don Bies, Rick Acton, Jeff Coston, and Fred Couples.

“We’re thrilled to bring one of the Northwest’s premier championships to one of the region’s most respected and time-honored venues,” said Frank Talarico, CEO of the Pacific Northwest Section PGA. “Our thanks to the membership and staff at Royal Oaks for their commitment to delivering an exceptional tournament experience for our PGA professionals.”

“The Royal Oaks members and staff are excited to host the prestigious Washington State Open in 2027. It is an opportunity to showcase the excellent course layout and tournament conditions our members experience on a daily basis,” said Scott Leritz, PGA Head Professional at Royal Oaks Country Club.

Founded in 1945 by 50 visionary businessmen, Royal Oaks Country Club has grown into one of the most celebrated golf clubs in the state. Built on 170 acres near Orchards, the original nine holes opened for play in 1947, with the full 18 completed by 1952. The course is consistently ranked among the top five in Washington by Golf Digest, and is known for its fast, smooth greens and demanding tree-lined layout.

Royal Oaks has a proud tournament tradition, having hosted nearly every major championship in the region. Notably, it was the site of the 1994 PNGA Men’s Amateur Championship, won by a young Tiger Woods, and again in 2003, won by Nick Flanagan. Positioned just north of the Oregon border, Royal Oaks has previously hosted the Northwest Open and the Oregon Open three times each, but 2027 marks the club’s first time hosting the Washington Open Invitational.

The Pacific Northwest Section PGA, founded in 1922, is home to more than 1,300 PGA professionals across Washington, Oregon, Northern Idaho, Western Montana, and Alaska. As a 501(c)(6) non-profit association, its mission is to serve its members and grow the game of golf across the region.
