PGA Professional Mitch Runge, Head Professional, and Shane Prante, Assistant Professional from The Home Course in DuPont, Washington, clinched a victory in the PNW PGA Pro-Assistant Championship by a mere stroke. Their collective prowess culminated in an impressive 17-under par four-ball score over the two-day tournament, held on March 18-19, 2024. Basking in spring sunshine and enjoying temperatures ranging from the high 50s to the lower 60s, players were treated to optimal conditions for a riveting competition at beautiful Tacoma Country & Golf Club.
The Pacific Northwest PGA Pro-Assistant Championship recently concluded at the scenic Eugene Country Club on March 20-21, 2023, bringing together the best PNW PGA Professionals and their assistants to compete for top honors.

Mitch Runge previously won the championship in 2022. Shane Prante brings his own winning history to the table, having secured victory in the same event back in 2017.
The players were greeted with wet weather, and a course that was in excellent condition, providing a stern test for the players. The first day saw Tim Hval and David Lebeck of Portland Golf Club lead the pack with an impressive 6-under-par 66, tied with Nick McCaslin and Amy Eneroth, who also shot 6-under-par 66.

“Winning the Pro-Assistant Championship is so much fun.  It truly is an honor to represent our facility and come out on top of such a talented field,” Runge stated, adding, “I started my career at TCGC and that club, it’s members and my bosses have played a huge role in the man I am and where I have gotten in my career. I don’t think for me personally winning anywhere else is quite as special as winning at my favorite golf course.
On the second day, the team of Cameron Fife and Daniel Campbell of Bellingham G&CC put on a spectacular performance, shooting a remarkable 65 that included 7 birdies to win the championship with a combined score of 133 (-11). Despite finishing as runners-up, McCaslin and Eneroth put up a strong fight and finished with a respectable score of 134 (-10).
When asked what made the pairing of Cameron and Daniel so potent Daniel said, “our competitiveness was a major part of our success, we both have similar mindsets when playing tournament golf. Even though our physical games are different, we both play a similar style of golf. It was an enjoyable experience to have success putting those two together”.

Prante praised the course as well, stating, “Tacoma C&GC club is so ripe with history and superior conditions that anytime I have a chance to play an event there it is something I thoroughly enjoy doing.
Tim Hval and David Lebeck finished tied for third place with the Everett G&CC team of Matt Epstein and Alexander Mroz and the Willamette Valley CC duo of John Grothe and Blake Netter, all three teams finishing with a total score of 135 (-9).
“The event has a great history, and to be a part of that as a winning team is special.  There are some great teams on that trophy.  Additionally, the camaraderie and teamwork it builds is important to both Daniel and I, and it will only benefit us going forward professionally and personally” said Cameron Fife on what this event means to him.

The team hailing from Oswego Lake Country Club in Lake Oswego, Oregon, led by Director of Instruction Scott Erdmann and Assistant Professional Brady Sharp, secured second place honors.

This two-man team competition pairs a head golf professional with their assistant golf professional, engaging in a four-ball format that showcases their collective talent and strategic acumen on the course.

What will the dynamic duo do next? Runge has his sights set on the National Club Pro and making the Hudson Cup team. Prante, who was the 2023 Assistant Player of the Year, echoed these goals, and added that he would like to win another section major and have a chance to win Player of the Year in 2024.
