Fisher Captures National Car Rental PNW Assistant PGA Professional Championship

By Molly Cooper, PGA - Director of Tournament & Member Programs

Fifty-three PGA Assistants and Associates battled in the National Car Rental Assistant PGA Professional Championship at The Home Course in DuPont, WA with the hopes of representing the Pacific Northwest Section in Florida in November. The 42nd National Car Rental Assistant PGA Professional Championship will be held at the famed PGA Golf Club’s Wanamaker course in Port St. Lucie, Florida – November 15-18, 2018.

With only three spots up for grabs, the field knew that a well-executed 36 holes of golf would be needed to see their name atop the leaderboard and also earn a coveted spot to Florida in November. The morning round was a 7:30 am shotgun. Bryce Fisher of Arrowhead GC took an early lead after posting a 7-under par 65. His lead was only one stroke over defending champion Derek Berg of Sahalee CC, recent Oregon Open Invitational Champion Colin Inglis of Emerald Valley GC and Austin Hurt of Wing Point G&CC.

After a short break and re-pairing for the final round, the players headed out for the second and final round in hot, 90-degree temperatures. At the conclusion of the 36-hole event, Fisher secured his victory and his first PNW PGA title.

“There are so many great players out here, it is not easy to win. I made a few important putts along the way to turn this week into a win,” Fisher said of his victory.

“The winning experience is an important one. I look forward to taking that experience into the next event. I also made a few poor choices at this event that I have learned from and will use moving forward in the Northwest Open.”

Fisher went on to finish a solid T-16 at the Northwest Open Invitational.

Along with Fisher, Shane Prante and John Cassidy earned spots (after a one-hole playoff) to represent the Pacific Northwest Section at the National Assistant PGA Professional Championship. Congratulations to these three gentlemen! We wish them the best of luck when they compete in Florida, November 15-18. Derek Berg was already exempt based on his finish last fall at the National event and will also represent our Section. Congratulations also to John Eisentrout (Eagles Pride GC) for his hole-in-one on #12 with a 4-iron on the 204-yard par 3. We would like to thank National Car Rental for their title sponsorship. Thank you also to our supporting sponsors Srixon, Cleveland Golf, XXIO, Golf Advisor, John Deere and the PGA Tour. Another thank you goes out to PGA Director of Golf Justin Gravatt and The Home Course for the accommodations and exceptional golf course.
