History of the Championship
This year’s Assistant Championship marks the 40th Anniversary as a National event but the PNW Section has been conducting the event since Fred Pelzer donated the trophy in 1965.
The National Championship tradition began in 1976 to recognize the role of the PGA Assistant Professional and how important he or she may be in the success of a golf facility as well as our entire Association. They represent more than 10,000 men and women assistant professionals and registered apprentices nationwide.
Last year, PGA Professional Casey King of Tokatee GC won the National Car Rental Assistant Championship by one stroke over PGA Professional John Cassidy of Alderbrook G&YC. King posted rounds of 70-69-139, 5-under par at Tualatin CC.
Casey King, John Cassidy, Ryan Malby and Derek Barron all earned spots to the 2015 National Car Rental PGA Assistant National Championship on the Wanamaker Course at the PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, Florida.
Fairwood G&CC
Fairwood G&CC was founded in 1967 by George E. Bell. The Course was originally designed by golf course architect, William G. Teufel, however newer designs by late local architect John Harbottle III have been submitted and incorporated.
Fairwood G&CC has had the honor of hosting a number of competitive tournaments over the years including the Washington Open. Despite the lack of length, Fairwood G&CC provides a tough but fair challenge due to its narrow fairways and firm and fast greens.
Director of Golf, PGA Professional Rick Larson is excited to host once again.
