PGA Professionals from the Northwest spent 8 days in the tropical paradise of Kauai, playing golf and enjoying all the island has to offer. Perfect weather, light winds, great food and generous bartenders were the norm. Host for the week was the Kauai Marriott and golf was enjoyed at the Ocean Course at Hokuala and Poipu Bay GC.
Congratulations to PGA Professional Jim Oscarson and his team of Greg Zevely, Ruben Canas, James Postma and Bret Lovely for their best two of three round total of 269 and championship title in the 44th edition of the Pacific Northwest Hawaii Pro-Am presented by State Farm Jim Ostrander Agency. Jason Aichele, PGA of Meadow Springs CC posted 42-43 = 85 points to win individual professional honors.
Round 1 opened at the beautiful and challenging Ocean Course at Hokuala. With quick greens and an amazing finishing stretch right on the water. PGA Professional James Billings captained his team of his father Jim Billings, Monique McCleery, Spencer Sanvitale and Keever Henry to a one shot lead over Issac Henry-Cano’s team from Fairwood in the best 3 of 5 stableford game. Jason Aichele capitalized on his Island experience posting a 6-under par 66.
Round 2 moved to Poipu Bay, the site of the PGA Grand Slam for thirteen years. With no wind and perfect conditions the players lit up the score board. PGA Professional Mike Gove and his Inglewood team of Rob and Pam Kirkland, David Cann and Deanne Donovan took team honors at 137. Jason Aichele once again lead the professional field at 65, just one shot better than Mike Gove’s 66.
For the final round the group returned to the Ocean Course at Hokuala and another Chamber of Commerce day with 80 degrees and light winds. Our eventual champions lead by Jim Oscarson made a big move with their 26 under par total of 134 to win day’s low round and Jason Aichele completed his sweep of the professional rounds with a 5 under par 67.
Our thanks to Jim Ostrander of State Farm for his long sponsorship of this fun event. We are indebted to our hosts – Fran Roach and Kellie Hines at the Ocean Course at Hokuala and Craig Sasada and Chad Dusenberry at Poipu Bay GC. Join us next year, January 16 – 23, 2020 as we return to the newly remodeled Mauna Lani Bay Hotel on the Big Island.
