In Memory of Scott Shagool: 8/30/1958 – 8/31/2024

Scott Mitchell Shagool, PGA, passed away suddenly on August 31, 2024, at his home in Post Falls, ID, just one day after his 66th birthday. Born on August 30, 1958, in Topeka, KS, Scott’s journey through life took him to many places, but his love for people and golf remained constant.

Scott began his education in Sandy, UT, before moving to Spokane, WA, where he attended Indian Trail Elementary, Salk Junior High, and Shadle Park High School. He cherished the lifelong friendships he made during these early years. Scott continued his studies at Washington State University. He later transferred to Whitworth University, excelling in both golf and football, and graduated in 1983.

During his time at Whitworth, Scott also made the honorable decision to join the United States Marine Corps, serving as an officer for five years. His dedication to service and leadership was a hallmark of his life, both on and off the golf course.

An accomplished scratch golfer, Scott joined the PGA in 1988 and enjoyed a career as a teaching professional, competing in tournaments across Arizona, California, Washington, Idaho, Montana, and Oregon. One of the highlights of his life was playing at St. Andrews, where he joyfully completed 18 rounds of golf in just three weeks. At the time of his passing, he was a proud member of Avondale Golf Club.

Scott often said the smartest thing he ever did was marrying his wife, Jill, who survives him. He is also survived by his son, James Pearce (Sarah), and his granddaughter, August; his sister, Stacey Ward (Keith); his brother, Chuck (Marsha); and many beloved nieces and nephews. Scott was known as an honorable man, a loyal friend, and a generous spirit, touching the lives of many throughout his life.

A Military Honors Service will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, October 25, 2024, at the Washington State Veterans Cemetery, 21702 W. Espanola Rd, Medical Lake, WA.
