PDX Golf’s expert instructor is set to compete in the 2025 Senior PGA Championship!

Hometown: Boise, Idaho

PGA Member Since: 1999

Mitch Lowe, PGA, serves as the Director of Instruction at PDX Golf, located at Glendoveer Golf Course in Portland, Oregon. With over two decades of experience as a PGA Member, Mitch has honed a unique teaching philosophy that prioritizes on-course learning over time spent on the practice range. His instructional approach focuses on three key aspects: face, path, and contact, ensuring that students improve by learning the game where it matters most—on the course itself.

“I know that learning to play golf and truly improving happens on the golf course and not the practice range,” Mitch explains, emphasizing the importance of real-game experience. As a result, students who come to Mitch for lessons can expect to spend less time on the driving range and more time navigating the greens and fairways.

Mitch’s passion for golf stems from his family roots in Boise, Idaho, where his father and grandfather introduced him to the game. Their coaching and guidance propelled him to earn a golf scholarship to the University of the Pacific, setting him on a path toward a successful playing career. Following his college years, Mitch played professionally for several years, earning titles like NorCal Player of the Year five times and competing in five major championships. His experiences shaped his belief that genuine improvement in golf happens during real play, not just in practice.

After years of competitive play, Mitch transitioned to teaching, inspired by the fulfillment he found in helping others enjoy and excel at the game. “I started giving a lot of lessons after becoming a head pro and realized how much I enjoyed helping people play the game better,” Mitch recalls. His commitment to instruction aligns with his belief that learning should happen on the course, where golfers face real challenges and situations.

Mitch’s career has now brought him another exciting opportunity: a spot on the Corebridge Financial Team. In October 2024, he finished tied for 26th at the national Senior PGA Professional Championship at Sunriver, Oregon. This achievement secured him a coveted position in the 2025 Senior PGA Championship, which will take place at Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, Maryland, from May 19-25. He’ll be competing along with fellow PNW PGA Professionals Jeff Gove, Ryan Malby, and Birk Nelson.

For Mitch, qualifying for the Senior PGA Championship is not just about personal achievement—it’s a family affair. “I have been fortunate to qualify for four PGA Championships, but I have never made it to the Senior PGA Championship, so that is a goal. Also, I have a 2 1/2-year-old daughter, and I would love for her to be part of that experience,” he shares. Mitch Lowe’s journey continues to be an inspiring one, both on and off the course, as he balances his love for teaching, competing, and family.
