2025 FREDDY Initiative

Sean Fredrickson was a beloved figure in the Pacific Northwest Section of the PGA, known for his dedication as a mentor and leader. As the President of the PNWPGA, Sean’s passion for mentorship was evident through his creation of the mentoring committee and early mentoring conferences. His genuine desire to serve and support fellow PGA Professionals left a lasting impact on many.  In honor of Sean’s legacy, a foundation was established in 2020 to continue his lifetime’s work, highlighted by industry leading mentorship of Associate PGA Professionals.

A New Path Forward

New and beginning in 2025, this foundation will now provide the opportunity to connect Associates with leading mentors in our Pacific Northwest PGA Section, providing guidance and support to help them excel in their careers. The foundation aims to uphold Sean’s values of enthusiasm, integrity, and passion, ensuring that his commitment to mentorship lives on.

Through this initiative, Sean Fredrickson’s legacy will continue to inspire and shape the future of golf professionals, fostering growth and excellence in the field.

New Internship / Mentorship Program: Allowing Associates to be mentored by other outstand PGA Professionals they may not know offers a unique opportunity for growth and development. This approach broadens the Associates’ perspectives, exposing them to different teaching styles, expertise, and experiences that they might not encounter within their immediate circle. It encourages networking and fosters connections across various areas of the golf industry, allowing Associates to gain insights and advice from diverse backgrounds. This type of mentorship promotes adaptability, resilience, and a deeper understanding of the golf profession. By stepping outside their comfort zones and learning from professionals they haven’t yet met, Associates are better equipped to grow both personally and professionally, building valuable skills that will serve them throughout their careers.

Diverse Perspectives: Being mentored by different professionals exposes Associates to a variety of viewpoints and experiences. This diversity can provide fresh insights and innovative solutions to challenges they may face in their careers.

Broadened Network: Interacting with mentors outside their immediate circle helps Associates expand their professional network. Building relationships with a wider range of industry leaders can open up new opportunities and resources.

Enhanced Learning Opportunities: Different mentors bring unique expertise and skills to the table. Associates can learn from a broader spectrum of knowledge, enhancing their overall professional development.

Increased Adaptability: Working with various mentors helps Associates become more adaptable and flexible. They learn to navigate different mentoring styles and approaches, which can be valuable in their professional growth.

Personal Growth: Engaging with mentors they may not know encourages Associates to step out of their comfort zones. This can lead to personal growth, increased confidence, and a greater willingness to take on new challenges.

Educational Workshops and Seminars: The foundation will host monthly online workshops on various topics relevant to golf professionals, such as customer service, player development, golf operations, career advancement and leadership, tournament operations, and the latest industry trends.

Scholarships and Grants: To support the educational and career advancement of Associates, the foundation will offer scholarships and grants to help cover the costs of education. These financial aids will help Associates pursue even further education and training through the PGA Education Program.
These programs will ensure that Sean Fredrickson’s legacy of mentorship and support continues to inspire and shape the future of golf professionals.
