The Pacific Northwest Section PGA is proud to announce that Inglewood Golf Club in Kenmore, Washington, will host the Washington Open Invitational in May 2029.
One of the most prestigious championships in the region, the Washington Open Invitational brings together top professionals and elite amateurs from across the Pacific Northwest. The inaugural event was held in 1922 at Yakima Country Club, and was won by none other than Al Espinosa of Inglewood Golf Club. The tournament boasts a rich legacy of champions, including golf legends such as Chuck Congdon, Bud Ward, Bob Duden, Don Bies, Rick Acton, Jeff Coston, and Fred Couples.
“We are delighted to welcome Inglewood Golf Club as host of the 2029 Washington Open. This selection reflects both our dedication to elevating the competitive experience and Inglewood’s unwavering legacy in shaping the game in the Pacific Northwest,” said Frank Talarico, CEO of the Pacific Northwest Section PGA.
“We are proud of the club’s legacy,” said John Pfeil, President of Inglewood Golf Club. “Inglewood’s AV Macan design has proven capabilities and a tradition of championship excellence. The club is prepared to deliver a world-class experience for the top professionals and amateurs in the Pacific Northwest.”
Nestled at the north end of Lake Washington, Inglewood Golf Club is among the Pacific Northwest’s oldest and most distinguished private clubs. Founded on December 12, 1919, it officially opened for play in July 1921, fulfilling its founders’ vision as a premier championship venue.
Among the illustrious figures in its early history is Al Espinosa, who served as the club’s first Head PGA Professional. During his tenure, Espinosa claimed back‑to‑back Washington Opens and went on to achieve national prominence on the PGA Tour, competing in Ryder Cups and contending in major championships including the PGA Championship and U.S. Open.
Following Espinosa, Walter Pursey took over as Head PGA Professional and made his own mark on the club’s legacy, winning the 1926 Washington Open at Inglewood while serving in that very role.
Continuing that legacy of excellence, Mike Gove, Inglewood’s current Director of Golf, also triumphed at home, winning the Washington Open at Inglewood in 1985.
