Worth It!

“Our Section Championship is the event I look forward to every year.  It is an opportunity to connect with fellow PGA members and is our chance as PGA Professionals to qualify to play in our Professional National Championship.”

– Tim Feenstra, PGA

Open only to PNW PGA members, this championship confers the title of “The Pacific Northwest Section Champion.” In addition to the winner, six players will advance directly to the 2023 PGA Professional Championship presented by Cadillac, Club Car and Rolex, April 30 – May 3 at Twin Warriors & Santa Ana Pueblo Golf Clubs in Santa Ana Pueblo, NM. Colin Inglis, Austin Hurt and Tim Feenstra all are exempt (based on their top 20 finish at this year’s PGA Professional National Championship).

Additionally, the low 20 scores at the 2023 PGA Professional Championship presented by Cadillac, Club Car and Rolex will earn a place in the 105th PGA Championship at Oak Hill Country Club (East Course), Pittsford, New York, May 18-21, 2023.

We are also playing for a large purse. We’ve averaged well over $70,000 the last five years and with your participation we expect this year to easily top that mark. This is a fun event for all, with fantastic competition and camaraderie with your fellow PNW PGA members.

History of the Championship

The earliest recorded scores of the Section Championship date back to 1936. In 2000 the Section Championship was combined with the CPC event and is now the Pacific Northwest Section PGA Professional Championship (PPC). Jeff Coston holds the record for most wins (7), just one more than legend Charles Congdon. Last year, Colin Inglis of Shadow Hills CC won the title at Arrowhead GC.

Manito Golf & Country Club

Manito Golf & Country Club was founded in 1917 at Hart Field by a small group of dedicated golf enthusiasts. The Club permanently moved to its current location in 1922. Well-known golf course architect Arthur Vernon Macan designed the course to meet championship specifications and formal opening of the 18 holes took place on July 4, 1925. The course features tight fairways with towering pine trees and has since been updated by Robin Freem and Pete Dye.

Manito G&CC hosted the PGA Championship in 1944, then match play, in which Bob Hamilton upset favored Byron Nelson in the final! Previously host to the PNW PGA Professional Championship in 1968, 1957 and 1951, The Club was also the site of the PNW PGA Senior Professional Championship in 2005.
