Joel Kachmarek received a B.S. in Horticulture from Oregon State University in 1992. He is currently the Golf Course Superintendent at Tacoma Country and Golf Club which is where he started his professional career as Assistant Superintendent in 1993. Tacoma is the oldest American country club west of the Mississippi which suites Joel perfectly as he has become a true believer that golf course maintenance has lost its way and should be done a little more like it was in “the good old days”. Joel recently completed a golf course renovation at Tacoma which received one of the “Best Renovation” awards from Golf Inc. in 2014. He’ll be sharing what he learned from that project and also the many lessons learned from day to day maintenance on a historic golf course property. Joel is an avid blogger and you can find out a lot about the unique maintenance practices at Tacoma by going to www.tacomaturf.net.
Brett Eaton, PGA Head Professional at Tacoma C&GC, is an award-winning merchandiser. In addition to winning the Western Washington Chapter PGA Merchandiser of the Year Award for Resort facilities ten times, he received Section honors in that category in 2014. In 2022, he received the Merchandiser of the Year Award for Private facilities at both the Chapter and Section level. He has taken his success to several of Washington’s premium courses, including Homestead GC (awards in 2003, 2004, 2005), Semiahmoo Resort (2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2011, 2013, 2014) and Tacoma C&GC (2022). He is also the recipient of the 2014 Western Washington Chapter PGA Golf Professional of the Year award.
