This month we interview Jason Aichele, multiple PNW PGA award winner and two-time Hudson Cup team captain.
Hometown: Richland, WA
PGA Member since: 2010
How did you get started in golf and who are your mentors?
After playing college golf and graduating, I turned professional and played mini-tours for a couple of years, then caddied on the PGA Tour for a college teammate for a few years until my son JJ was born. I came back home and started working at my home course, Meadow Springs CC, for the past 15 years. Some of my mentors in the business have been: Stan Utley, David Hearn and Chris Peterson.
You previously captained in 2020, and played in the Matches in 2017, ’18, ’19 and ’23. What is your favorite Hudson Cup memory?
It was in 2020 as a captain. This was a COVID year, so we had no dinners or get-togethers that year. I had my whole team stay at my house and we had all the meals and functions at my place. Let’s just say we ended up having a couple beverages around the fire pit those evenings. The place looked like a frat house for a couple of days.
I was a little worried about how my team was going to perform during the matches because of how late they stayed up and how good the amateur team was that year. Because of COVID, there was no college golf, so the amateur team had a few college players and was stacked that year. After a good breakfast each morning, my team came out like true Professionals and put a whooping on the Amateurs that year. Looking to do the same thing this year.
