A Season for Gratitude: Giving Thanks for the Game and the People Who Shape It

Frank Talarico, CEO

As the leaves turn and the mornings get a little colder here in the Pacific Northwest, I always find myself reflecting on the season we’ve had. The pace may finally be slowing, but for those of us in the golf industry, there’s never really an “off” season—just a different kind of busy. And as Thanksgiving approaches, it feels like the right time to pause, take a deep breath, and remember what we’re thankful for.

For me, that starts with the game itself. Golf has a remarkable way of teaching life lessons without ever saying a word. It humbles us one moment and rewards us the next. It demands focus, patience, and persistence—qualities that define not just great players, but great professionals. We’re fortunate to make a living in a sport that continues to challenge and inspire us every day.

I’m also deeply grateful for the people who make this industry what it is. Our PGA professionals and associates who give their all to grow the game. The superintendents and maintenance teams who show up long before dawn to keep our courses in beautiful shape. Our respective staff, food and beverage teams, merchandisers, and administrators—every one of them playing a part in creating memorable experiences for our members and guests. And of course, the golfers who choose to spend their time and energy at our facilities. Without them, none of this works.

Thanksgiving reminds us that gratitude isn’t just a feeling—it’s an action. When we take time to express appreciation to our teams, to thank a coworker, or to acknowledge a job well done, it strengthens our culture and builds a sense of connection that can carry us through the busiest and most challenging times. Leadership rooted in gratitude creates workplaces where people feel seen and valued, and that’s where our best work happens.

This season also offers a moment to look back on what we’ve accomplished together as a section. From player development programs and tournaments to education and community initiatives, our collective efforts continue to elevate the game in the Pacific Northwest and continues to serve as a model across the other forty sections and HQ. None of that happens without the passion and dedication of our amazing PNWPGA Section staff or our dedicated members. For that, I’m incredibly thankful.

As we head into the holiday season, I encourage each of you to take a moment to reflect on what you’re grateful for—whether it’s a great team, a supportive family, or simply the privilege of being part of this profession.

On behalf of the entire PNWPGA staff and board, thank you for all you do to make this association and this game stronger every day. I wish you a very happy Thanksgiving filled with family, friends, and maybe even a few well-earned quiet moments on and off the course.
