August 2018 CEO’s Report

As we all rush into August, take a moment to step back and begin planning for all the activities offered by the Section and Chapters during September and October.  Our summer offerings are always a bit limited due to your busy schedules, but the fall is jammed-packed with tournaments, pro-ams, education, and meetings.

On the tournament front, members should play in the PGA Professional Championship (September 18-20 at Meadow Springs CC) and the Senior PGA Professional Championship (September 6-7 at Arrowhead GC). These are your member championships – play!  On the chapter scene, chapter championships are on the agenda in 4 of our 5 chapters.  Visit your chapter web site to find your schedule and make plans to play! All of the above championships have added money – get yourself some as you play with your peers.

This month, put your final touches on your plans for Patriot Golf Day. Patriot Golf Day is our Section-wide effort to support the Folds of Honor Foundation. If you don’t know about Patriot Golf Day, visit www.foldsofhonor.org , give me a call or contact Dave Dierinzo at [email protected]. Your efforts can be over Labor Day weekend or any other time that works for you.  The options available to work at your facility are wide open…. make it work for your place. Last year our Section effort via Patriot Golf Day, WA Open, WWC and even our Alaska Folds of Honor Scramble raised $208,000 and we are on track to exceed that this year. Help us out with Patriot Golf Day and let’s get that number over $250,000!

On July 1, the PGA of America rolled out the Member Assistance Program for all members, associates and their immediate families. This innovative program will provide you with many of the benefits enjoyed at Top 100 companies around the country. Details are available on PGA.org as well as on www.pgamap.com.  You can think of this as a broad range of “work-life” benefits… check it out.

This fall is also election season at the Chapter, Section, District and National level.  Your Chapter will be electing a new Secretary and new Directors at the fall meeting, the Section Secretary candidates will visit your chapter meeting where you will interact with them and cast your vote for your choice between Howie Pruitt and Marcus King. Your Board will conduct a final interview of Dan Hill and Doug Doxsie, selecting one as our next District 14 Director and finally your Board through the officers will be selecting, supporting and hopefully electing the next National Secretary. It’s going to be busy on the governance front this fall!  Why not get involved?

Just like you it’s been a busy summer for your Section staff. I’ve been on the road running your events and supporting Drive Chip and Putt qualifiers more than I’ve been in the office. Your terrific team in Tumwater has not missed a beat.  They keep me connected to the operation, manage the day to day better than I can, support chapter operations and as always, provide excellent service to all of you. Your terrific team averages 8 years of tenure with the association and I hope you appreciate all they do as much as I do. We are very lucky to have them!

Have a great August and start planning some time off for yourself!
